A Major Funding Initaitive

In May 2005 a national needs assessment study was conducted with input from NAA members, industry leaders, and published reports to evaluate the current needs of auctioneers. In response to the thorough research process, the NAF Board of Trustees and the NAA Board of Directors identified specific opportunities to not only meet those needs, but to also promote and expand the auction industry as never before.

The research revealed that NAF has an opportunity to increase NAA member services and foster real opportunities for growth of the auction industry overall through:

• More industry research with a focus on the individual growth sectors, geographic areas, online auctions, challenges and concerns and consumer spending will assist auctioneers to better navigate the marketplace and position themselves for success.
• A national public relations effort to engage potential buyer and sellers, while expanding the marketplace as a whole.
• The expansion of the role of the National Auctioneers Museum as an industry tool and reference source by developing a state-of-the-art interactive virtual museum for world-wide use to elevate the NAA presence internationally and provide a stronger more accessible resource and marketing tool.
• The renovation of the NAA headquarters to accommodate changes to the museum and growth and fulfillment of NAA benefits and services.

To realize the financial resources necessary to complete this immense endeavor, the NAF launched a major fundraising initiative “Investing in Our Future” in July 2005 during the NAA Annual Conference and Show.

This historic funding initiative resulted in commitments of cash and pledges surpassing the $3 million milestone. It was a pivotal point in NAF’s history and the impetus for many positive changes within the foundation. Through the conduct of its campaign the foundation experienced benefits beyond the dollars. The campaign discovered new leaders, elevated awareness, quadrupled the foundation’s donor pool and renewed interest in the foundation from NAA members and the entire auction community. 

To date, over $1.5 million in cash has been received to support the four campaign pillars designed to provide a lasting and monumental impact on the Association, the auction profession and the public.
